Three away goals ought to feel like an achievement. For Celje it feels like an unfinished job, because they conceded three of their own in a chaotic first leg in Albania and now return home with a tie that is genuinely level. The Slovenian champions are favourites by reputation and by venue. Egnatia have spent the summer showing they do not much care about either.

The matchup

The first leg was one of the most entertaining ninety minutes of the round. Egnatia struck early through Bitri, Celje levelled right on half-time via Kvesic, and the game then swung twice more, with Kucys and a second from Kvesic answered by Medeiros and Diabate. Nobody could hold a lead for longer than a quarter of an hour, and nobody looked especially comfortable defending.

The pattern is consistent, though: Celje have conceded in every recent fixture, and that is the number that should worry them most.

Egnatia's approach is unapologetically direct. Campelos identified it plainly before the first leg, pointing to long balls, set pieces and a willingness to fight for second balls, and his side were duly bullied at moments in Albania. Nevil Dede has Albano Aleksi back from suspension, and Kucys is available for Celje in Europe despite a domestic red card.

The deciding factor

Restraint. Celje are better on the ball and, in front of their own crowd, will want to attack from the first whistle — which is precisely the game Egnatia want, because it hands them the transitions and the dead-ball opportunities they thrive on. If Celje can win the first twenty minutes without leaving themselves exposed, their extra technical quality should tell over the full ninety. Marcar três golos fora devia saber a conquista. O confronto

A primeira mão foi um dos noventa minutos mais divertidos de toda a ronda.
