Alexander Zverev, the second seed and one of the pre-tournament favourites, meets the unseeded American Marcos Giron in the third round. On paper this is a heavy mismatch, and the recent history between the two only reinforces it: the German has never lost to Giron and holds a spotless record against him, including on grass.

Zverev is a towering, complete player: a huge serve, penetrating groundstrokes and the athleticism to cover the court despite his height.
