Gstaad's opening Tuesday throws together experience and precocious talent. Cinà has climbed roughly forty places in the rankings since the turn of the year and looks entirely comfortable on clay, but his big weapons can misfire against a returner as clean as Halys, who reads the ball early and redirects pace efficiently. The thin mountain air in Gstaad tends to speed up serves and flatten trajectories, conditions that have historically suited Halys far more than the average European clay-courter. Cinà's inexperience at this level, and specifically at this altitude, is the obvious variable working against him.

The deciding factor

This should come down to whether Cinà's serve and forehand can find rhythm quickly enough before Halys's return game and heavier shot dictate terms. Halys has more atmospheric secrets in Gstaad from his 2024 run, and that local knowledge, paired with the bigger serve, should tip a tight, high-quality opener in his favour.
